Radiation- and Compression-Free Breast Imaging

QT Imaging uses ultrasound to create detailed 3D images of breast tissue. Unlike mammograms, QT Imaging is radiation and compression-free.

What to Expect

01

Check In & Prepare

Wear two-piece clothing and avoid lotions, powders, and deodorant before your appointment. Eat and drink normally, and let staff know about any prior breast imaging studies.

02

The Scan

You'll lie face-down on the exam table while the system uses a warm water medium and sound waves to create detailed 3D images. The process is painless and gentle, taking about 10–15 minutes per breast.

03

Results & Follow-Up

Board-certified radiologists with specialized training in subtle tissue changes review your scan. If follow-up care is needed, a Breast Health Certified Navigator will help explain your results and next steps.

How to Prepare

Wear two-piece clothing and avoid lotions, powders, and deodorant on your chest before your appointment. You can eat and drink normally beforehand. Let our staff know about any prior breast imaging studies so they can be used for comparison.

Conditions Detected

QT Imaging uses sound waves to create detailed, radiation- and compression-free 3D images of breast tissue. It’s an effective supplemental screening option for dense breast tissue and for patients with breast implants, and Innovative Radiology is the first center in the nation — and the only provider in Iowa — to offer it.

FAQ

How is QT Imaging different from a mammogram?

QT Imaging uses sound waves instead of X-rays, so there’s no radiation and no compression involved. It creates detailed 3D cross-sectional images and is especially effective for dense breast tissue, but it’s a supplemental screening tool rather than a replacement for mammography.

Do I need a referral for QT Imaging?

No. Self-referrals are accepted. Call 515.672.1884 to schedule directly.

Is QT Imaging FDA-cleared?

Yes. QT breast ultrasound is FDA-cleared for clinical use and is safe for patients of all ages, with no radiation or compression involved.

What happens if something is found on my QTI scan?

A board-certified radiologist with specialized training in subtle tissue changes reviews your results. If follow-up care is needed, a Breast Health Certified Navigator will help explain your results and guide you through next steps.
